- Bolivia – North Yungas Road
This road is located in Bolivia. The road was constructed in the 1930s by Paraguayan prisoners during the Chaco War. The road climbs 4,060 meters above sea level at La Cumbre Pass. This road is wider than 3 meters, and many crosses stand as memorials. Nearly 300 drivers were killed every year until 1994. This road carries a lot of trucks, motorcycles, and bicycles. Until 2006, the North Yungas Road was the only option for traveling. The road is no wider than one lane. Finally, in 2009, the government constructed a new road. The new highway is two lanes, and it has been well-maintained.
- China – Guoliang Tunnel Road
The cliff corridor of Guoliang Village was built in 1972 and completed in 1977. It was manually completed by the villagers of Guoliang Village. It’s only 1.2 km long and 4 meters wide. Thirteen villagers who were mainly responsible for digging were called Guo Liangdong’s “thirteen strong men.”
- Zoji La Pass, India
One of the remotest regions in the northern part of India. It is also known as the Land of High Passes. These high mountain passes are the highest not only in India but the world, with about 20 mountain passes in this region. By road, there are two ways to reach Ladakh. The first one is from Sonamarg in Kashmir via Zoji La Pass, and the second from Manali in Himachal via Rohtang Pass. The valley of Sonamarg to Zoji La top is approximately 24 km. This road is narrow, with landslides and traffic jams being common. There are two roads to reach Zoji La top. The new one is a bit longer, and the old one is a bit shorter but serves one way for down traffic. The altitude of this place is 11,500 feet above sea level.
- Pakistan and China – Karakoram Highway
The Karakoram Highway, also known as the China-Pakistan Friendship Highway, was built by the governments of Pakistan and China. It was started in 1962 and was completed and opened to the public in 1978. About 800 Pakistanis and 200 Chinese workers died during its construction. It is one of the most dangerous roads in the world.
- Sichuan – Tibet Highway
The Southern Route of the Sichuan-Tibet Highway is the shorter and more popular road to Lhasa from Chengdu and stretches for around 2,149 kilometers up onto the plateau and across to Lhasa, the capital of Tibet.
You would need approximately 14 to 15 days to complete this road. However, the ride is an incredible adventure as you will be passing 14 mountains with heights ranging between 4,000 meters and 5,000 meters.
